NEC to mass-produce carbon nanotubes from 2004-Report

NEC Corp intends to begin mass-production of carbon nanotubes as early as 2004, employing proprietary technology using special gas,the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, citing company sources.
The output, estimated at one ton a year, will be used in-house as electrode material for small fuel cells, the paper said.
The company will also consider selling the carbon nanotubes, it said.
NEC intends to either set up a dedicated plant at a group
company or licensethe technology to other companies to outsource production,
it added.
