POSCO signs MOU with Seoul to expand fuel cell usage

The steelmaker POSCO yesterday held a ceremony to mark the completion of a hydrogen fuel cell power station in Seoul.

The 2.4 megawatt plant is capable of generating sufficient electricity to supply 3,200 households and enough hot water to provide heating for 1,000 households, the company said. The plant will be operated by the steelmaker’s energy subsidiary POSCO Power for the next 15 years.

The steelmaker also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Seoul city government to expand the use of fuel cells in Seoul.

According to Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, the country’s capital plans to promote the use of hydrogen fuel cells to account for 30 percent of alternative energy sources used in the city by 2020.

Morphic Wins SEK 48m Fuel Cell Order

Morphic Exergy Fuel Cells has today signed a distribution agreement with Narbonne Associates of France for its Polaris 140 portable fuel cell. The order has a guaranteed minimum value of SEK 48m for Exergy. The product has been approved by the customer and deliveries will begin in September 2009.

The Morphic subsidiary Morphic Exergy Fuel Cells has today signed a distribution agreement with Narbonne Associates of France for its Polaris 140 portable fuel cell. The order has guaranteed minimum value of SEK 48m. The product has been approved by the customer and deliveries will begin in September 2009.

Polaris 140 is a compact portable fuel cell which in this particular application runs on NBH4, a chemical compound that is distributed in liquid form (dissolved in water) and forms hydrogen continuously at the same rate as it is consumed in the fuel cell.

Narbonne will sell Polaris 140 to owners of house trailers and motorhomes, who attach it to the electrical systems of their recreational vehicles to charge their existing batteries.

“The product and area of application are exactly right and show not only that the market has embraced our offer but also indicate that our strategy of focusing our resources on concrete product development rather than visions will generate business. The changes we have now been implemented paved the way for our long-planned share offering and will enable us to fund production for orders like this”, Martin Valfridsson, President and CEO of Morphic Technologies AB, says.
