China: Shandong Heavy Industry to Develop and Implement 2,000 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Buses in Shandong Province

In a recent report out of China, Zhongtong Bus has announced that the actual control of the company had changed from Zhongtong Bus Co., Ltd. to Shandong Heavy Industry Group by Shandong Transportation Industry Group . 

It is also reported that Shandong Heavy Industry Group has recently initiated its new energy plan for the automotive industry. The “Integration and Control Project for Fuel Cell Engines for Heavy-Duty Trucks” is led by the company’s Weichai Group and it has been approved with a special fund of 50 million yuan. And the matching fund of 25 million yuan with Weifang City has been put in place.

Also, Weichai Group is building a new energy power industrial park. This project has also been included in the major new kinetic energy conversion project in Shandong Province, and received 20 million yuan in support.

In the very near future, Shandong Heavy Industry Group will focus on Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, to promote the implementation of 2,000 hydrogen fuel buses, and promote Shandong Province to take the lead in building green cities and a hydrogen energy society.

Zhongtong Bus, began to develop a strategic research and development plan for fuel cell buses in 2015.

By 2017, Zhongtong Bus had released its first first 9-meter hydrogen fuel cell bus in China

  • In March of 2017, Zhongtong Bus released a 12-meter hydrogen fuel cell bus
  • in June 2017, Zhongtong's first passenger-powered fuel cell bus was successfully rolled off the assembly line.
