  • Discuss detailed schedule for the technical exchange meeting ‘Joint technology development and commercialization using hydrogen-rechargeable fuel cell’
  • Decided to expand eco-friendly distributed power generation and hydrogen refueling bases

Doosan Fuel Cell announced on the 28th that it had held the first technology exchange meeting with SK Energy, a subsidiary of SK Innovation’s oil refining business, to utilize hydrogen-rechargeable fuel cells.

The event held at the Doosan Fuel Cell production plant in Iksan, Jeollabuk-do was attended by executives in charge of business development, R&D, and production of the two companies, including Seung-jun Lee, head of sales division of Doosan Fuel Cell, Dong-soo Kang, head of S&P promotion team of SK Energy, and Ho-jun Jang in charge of energy solutions.

This event was prepared to materialize the business details of Doosan Fuel Cell and SK Energy, which signed an MOU for the ‘joint technology development and commercialization of hydrogen-rechargeable fuel cells’ last month. At this event, Tri-Gen was introduced and a tour of the production site was held. ▲ Development of optimal linkage technology for hydrogen-rechargeable fuel cell (Tri-Gen) and high-purity hydrogen production system ▲ Joint expansion of distributed power generation and on-site* hydrogen charging bases There was a discussion about the commercialization schedule and future plans.
*On-site hydrogen charging: charging with hydrogen produced on site

Doosan Fuel Cell supplies Trigen fuel cells that can simultaneously produce electricity, hydrogen, and heat, and SK Energy has developed a technology for refining hydrogen produced from Trigen fuel cells to high purity (over 99.97%) so that it can be injected into vehicles. Responsible for design and development.

The two companies are expected to play a leading role in increasing the supply of eco-friendly infrastructure by building an eco-friendly complex energy station that can even increase the profitability of charging station operation by using fuel cells as a distributed power source at the same time as hydrogen charging.

A Doosan Fuel Cell official said, “Based on SK Energy’s know-how in charging electric vehicles and hydrogen vehicles, we will be able to materialize the new fuel cell business that Doosan Fuel Cell has been preparing for so far. We will try our best to commercialize it in the future.” In addition, he emphasized, “We will accelerate the construction of eco-friendly infrastructure such as smart farms, supply of electric water and charging stations, and fuel cells for ships so that they can be visualized at an early stage.”

Meanwhile, the Tri-Gen fuel cell, which is being developed through the ‘Intelligent Integrated Energy Platform-based Complex Energy Hub Demonstration and Technology Demonstration’ project, a R&D cooperation project between the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Energy Technology Assessment Service, is ▲hydrogen vehicle charging, electronic manufacturing, petrochemical It creates three energy sources: hydrogen that can be used in the process, electricity that can be used for electric vehicle charging, emergency power, and electricity sales, and heat that is supplied to district heating, hot water, and industrial heat sources.

The Tri-Gen fuel cell, which is currently in the final stage of development, will undergo internal testing this year and will be installed at the supply management office of the Korea Gas Corporation, the organization in charge of the project.
