Tasmanian Hydrogen Strategy

As countries around the world move to decarbonize their economies, renewably produced hydrogen is emerging as both a way to reduce emissions, and a significant economic opportunity.

Hydrogen exports are forecast to contribute $1.7 billion and 2 800 jobs to the Australian economy by 2030. Tasmania is in a unique position to take advantage of the global momentum and emerging economic opportunity behind hydrogen, as well as look at ways to use hydrogen in our local domestic economy.

The opportunity that a renewable hydrogen industry presents for Tasmania is significant, and complements other significant energy projects such as Project Marinus and Battery of the Nation.

To explore this opportunity further, a draft Tasmanian Renewable Hydrogen Action Plan has been released for consultation. The Plan sets a vision for Tasmania to lead the way to becoming a large-scale producer and significant global supplier of renewable hydrogen by 2030.

The draft Action Plan is open for consultation until 10 January 2020. To find out more, go to
