fuel cells works, First 100% Hydrogen EOX Electric Tractor Sold By H2trac

Arnhem–City Farm Almere has purchased the very first electric-powered tractor with a hydrogen range extender. The EOX-175 is unique in the world and has all kinds of special features such as variable track width, GPS steering, and four-wheel drive.

More efficient and cleaner power source

For farmers, an electric tractor offers many advantages, especially if hydrogen is the energy source. No CO2 emissions, no nitrogen, a much more efficient and powerful powertrain with less wear and less maintenance. The EOX-175 is the first electric tractor with a hydrogen stack as its energy source.

Unique design

The EOX 175 is also really designed as an electric tractor, it is a proprietary concept of H2Trac, developed with 7 Dutch farmers, with the underlying idea that farming can be cleaner and better if you have respect for the soil.

By using GPS and fixed tramlines the pulling power is better distributed over the soil and the soil is less compacted and therefore remains healthier. We call this Controlled Traffic Farming.

Four steering wheels make the EOX very maneuverable. With our own developed software and GPS steering, master-slave steering is possible and eventually also autonomous driving.

Almere City Farm launching customer

Stadsboerderij Almere is a large and modern biodynamic farm with cows, arable farming and vegetable cultivation. The grazing areas and fields are scattered in and around Almere. Owners Tom Saat and Tineke van den Berg manage Almere’s green space in an environmentally friendly way and provide activities in the areas of education, care and research about the value of the earth. The hydrogen-powered EOX 175 is therefore the ideal tool for the sustainable City Farm.

City farmer Tom Saat: “A hydrogen-powered tractor fits exactly into the plans we have for our city farm. We want to be self-sufficient. Our company is a recycling company. As clean and pure as possible. A major system failure is diesel consumption. Hydrogen has been on our wish list for years, but no one could make it happen.  We are therefore happy to be the first in the Netherlands with this innovative hydrogen tractor.”

Paul van Ham, CTO H2Trac: “We are proud of this milestone. Hydrogen definitely has a future as an energy source for tractors. Farmers will start generating hydrogen themselves with the power from their solar panels or their windmills. Then they will have come full circle, working the land in a completely energy-neutral way.

With the EOX we offer a powerful, clean and multifunctional tool for entrepreneurs with agriculture & climate ambitions. In addition, our EOX platform is also suitable for applications in infrastructure and road construction. Without CO2 and NOx emissions, this offers new opportunities for faster resumption of construction activities”.
