On September 16, Typhoon Mangkhu invaded Guangdong Province, causing great damage to the power grid and caused extensive damage to the local area. On this occasion, the superhero "Bumblebee" rushed to the scene of the disaster, as a power supply for emergency power supply. This hydrogen fuel cell mobile emergency power supply with its single power stack of more than 120 kW became an important force in the post-disaster repair work.

The hydrogen fuel cell emergency power supply vehicle is the latest product developed by Guangdong Electric Power Research Institute Energy Technology Co., Ltd., and is also the first hydrogen fuel emergency power supply vehicle in China. The partners involved in the research and development of hydrogen fuel cell power generation systems include Foshan (Yunfu) Hydrogen Energy Industry and New Materials Development Research Institute, Foshan Science and Technology College, Yunfu Power Supply Bureau and Guangdong Guohong Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd.

The vehicle is equipped with 14 high-pressure hydrogen storage tanks with a hydrogen storage pressure of 35 MPa. The stored hydrogen can meet the be supply energy for more than 6 hours  and can also directly output 380 volts AC to achieve seamless switching with grid power supply, and support online switching of hydrogen source to achieve long-term uninterrupted power generation.

Bu Qingyuan, director of the system business department of Foshan (Yunfu) Hydrogen Energy Industry and New Materials Development Research Institute , said: "Compared with diesel, lithium battery and other emergency power vehicles, the advantages of this hydrogen fuel emergency power supply vehicle are obvious, environmentally friendly, quiet, no odor and power supply capacity are long! One charge of hydrogen can provide more than 700 kWh for emergencies.".

All in all, the hydrogen fuel emergency power supply has many advantages such as long power supply time, short emergency response time, and long-term storage, which are unmatched by lithium-ion batteries. In addition, the configuration is very easy to upgrade, and it is foreseeable that it will play an important role in emergency power supply in important places such as venues, hospitals, and banks in the future.
