PowiDian Solar Hydrogen

PowiDian has been selected by the Ministry of the Armed Forces to equip the l’île de Glorieuse with a solar power station associated with hybrid battery and hydrogen storage.

L’île de Glorieuse, located in the scattered islands between Mayotte and Madagascar depends on the French Southern and Antarctic Territories of the Ministry of the Armies. Fifteen French soldiers monitor and maintain this island under the mandate of the TAAF to enforce the rules of environmental protection.

Currently, the energy autonomy of the island is provided by a diesel generator, requiring complex and expensive logistics, for its supply of diesel, not to mention the environmental impact of its operation. The PowiDian solution, chosen by the Defense Infrastructures Services of St Denis and whose implementation is entrusted to PowiDian, consists of:

  •  A solar power generation plant
  • A hybrid battery / hydrogen storage device.

The latter will produce hydrogen locally which will be stored under pressure for use through a fuel cell when the energy available in the batteries will be insufficient.

This Smart Autonomous Green Energy Station (SAGES®) will allow the locally installed military base to become self-sufficient in energy without impacting the island’s protected environment, as well as reducing base operating costs by eliminating logistics related to diesel supply.
