A German delegation led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz is coming to Canada with stops in Montreal, Toronto and Stephenville , Newfoundland.

The trip is planned for August 21-23.

The Newfoundland leg will focus on the potential to develop a green hydrogen economy, with the planned signing of an agreement between Germany and Canada.

More details on the visit and agreement are expected in the coming days.

It comes on the heels of this province’s move to increase opportunities to harness wind energy for production of green hydrogen as European countries seek alternatives to dependence on Russian oil and gas.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will accompany the German leader and his minister of economics and climate protection, as well as a business delegation during the trip.
