HyEnegy, together with its partner Energy B.V., are pleased to welcome the HEAVENN (Hydrogen Energy Application (in) Valley Environments (for) Northern Netherlands) project funding Application.

HyEnergy TranStore was invited to define the project application by New Energy Coalition. HyEnergy, and Enercy undertook the planning, development, writing and application delivery for the project over a 4-month intensive collaboration period at the beginning of the year.

The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking of the European Commission selected the Northern Netherlands (NN) project to prepare a grant for €20 million of EU funding, and €70 million of public and private co-funding. With this funding, the project aims to explore the unique opportunity of implementing the entire hydrogen (H2) value chain in a single geographical location, the NN. The HEAVENN consortium, led by Energy Valley (New Energy Coalition member), features 31 public and private partners from 6 countries. In fact, more than 65 national/international parties supported the application, including groups from California; Japan and New Zealand. The consortium aims to sign the grant agreement before Christmas 2019; allowing the NN to begin its six-year journey to one of Europe’s leading H2 regions.

The H2 Valley grant is one of the largest grants that the public-private partnership, and part of HORIZON 2020 Framework Programme, FCH JU, has ever commissioned. This grant, and accompanying regional co -financing, enables the development of sectoral integration for green H2; meaning the region can take leadership in the field of H2 and inspire the developments of similar H2 regions elsewhere.

HyEnergy TransStore to participate
HyEnergy TransStore will also participate in the project supporting and enabling access to hydrogen, which is already available within the region, for some of the planned applications.

To provide an insight into the plans for the project New Energy Coalition has produced a short video. This can be accessed at

Ian Williamson, HyEnergy’s CEO, said “We are really very proud of the work we have undertaken to deliver the HEAVENN application. Its success and quality are founded on the strength of the collaboration with Enercy and the New Energy Coalition. I look forward to working with them frequently in the future. Now we stand ready, together with the rest of the region, to deliver on the opportunity this funding gives us to create a sustainable hydrogen ‘greenprint’ for the future.”

Enrique Toncoso, Enercy’s Managing Director said“The partnership we developed with HyEnergy on this project relied on the quality and experience of the people within our organisations,” “This allowed us to develop a project structure which for the first time will integrate hydrogen use in the transport, energy and industry sectors.”
