Asahi Shimbun--Honda Motor Co. showed off its environmentally friendly vehicles in Tokyo's Marunouchi district to holiday shoppers on Christmas Eve by using two cars to run seasonal lighting.
The two shiny cars were parked at a special roadside display on Nakadori avenue, home to many posh restaurants and stores. There were about 200 trees illuminated along a 1.2-kilometer stretch.
Honda connected its new Clarity Fuel Cell model, a fuel-cell vehicle (FCV), and a Fit EV to power exporter devices that enabled the vehicles to be utilized as a mobile power generator. The Clarity Fuel Cell illuminated LEDs on six nearby trees, and the Fit EV was used to power the lighting and a music player.
FCVs generate electricity through a reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, and emits water instead of harmful greenhouse gases.
The eco-friendly car illumination is also scheduled to be held on the evening of Dec. 25, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
