NARITA, CHIBA PREF. – A hydrogen fueling station for fuel cell vehicles will open tomorrow at Narita International Airport in Chiba Prefecture.

The station, the first such facility set up by oil refiner Idemitsu Kosan Co., will open at 9 a.m.

It is the second hydrogen fueling station to be established within the premises of an airport, following the opening of a facility at Kansai International Airport in Osaka Prefecture.

Idemitsu has renovated a 700-sq.-meter site adjacent to Narita airport’s Terminal 1, where the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry opened a demonstration fueling station between 2011 and last year.

The new station has one fueling machine. A standard fuel cell vehicle with a 5-kg hydrogen tank can be filled up in about three minutes.

Hydrogen will be sold initially at ¥1,100 per kg.

The station will be open between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. It will be closed on weekends and over the year-end/New Year holiday season.
