Hyundai to Develop Hydrogen Fuel Cell Powered Ship Main

At the two-day International Hydrogen Forum 2019 taking place at PyeongChang Alpensia Resort Convention Center in Gangwon Province,  Hyundai Motor signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Gangwon Province to develop a ship powered by its hydrogen fuel cells.

This is the first time that Hyundai will use its fuel cell technology to power a ship. This application of using hydrogen and fuel cells to power a ship will also diversify the use of the technology in Korea, helping to bring about the era of the “hydrogen economy” that the Korean government has been promoting over the last few years.

Under the agreement the ship will be completed and verified by 2022 and begin its official operation after 2030. Hyundai will also develop a special fuel cell stack for this application.
