Fuel Cells Works, In Europe, PACECO Group Launched Its Hydrogen Fuel Cells for Container Rubber-Tire-Gantry RTG Cranes

PACECO Group debuted its Hydrogen Fuel Cell for Rubber-Tire-Gantry RTG cranes at TOC Europe in Rotterdam recently.

PACECO Group, in collaboration with its parent company Mitsui E&S Machinery, was awarded a grant from NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) to help revolutionize the ecological transition of the cargo handling industry.

As part of the company’s 2009 launch, the company introduced a hybrid RTG with a smaller diesel engine and lithium-ion batteries for additional power, as well as the NZE Transtainer RTG, a near-zero-emission crane with a small diesel engine that can be replaced soon with a zero-emission power source.

Troy Collard, general manager of sales at PACECO Corporation, explains that the company has been working for several years on integrating the hydrogen fuel cell in the U.S. and has now launched it in Europe.

Mitsubishi E&S Machinery Co. (MES-M) and PACECO are participating in a local hydrogen production and consumption model at the Port of Los Angeles to transition port cargo handling equipment and drayage vehicles to fuel cells.

Ship It Zero, a resolution passed last week by the Long Beach City Council, urges major marine importers to make all port calls to the San Pedro Port Complex, which includes the Port of Long Beach, on ships with zero emissions by 2030.

Through this resolution, Los Angeles, and Long Beach commit to achieving emission-free maritime shipping by 2030.

As part of the bill, the Port of Long Beach is required to develop greener international maritime commerce corridors, extending the Shanghai-to-Los Angeles-to-Long Beach corridor already in place. Legislative and regulatory support is also needed for decarbonizing maritime shipping and creating zero-emission shipping lanes along the California coast, the West Coast of the United States, and the Trans-Pacific trading route.
