The transport sector is responsible for a quarter of the EU’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, so drastic changes in the transport sector are required to meet the 90% reduction in GHG emissions set out in the Green Deal.

It is, therefore, vital to completely decarbonise the truck sector to meet the EU objectives. Hydrogen-powered trucks are an essential, promising solution to achieve this goal without compromising operational flexibility with a range, refuelling time and payload closer to combustion engines.

To help foster discussions and actions towards these goals, today, Hydrogen Europe organised the ‘Hydrogen fuel cell trucks: paving the road to a carbon-neutral Europe’ event on 5 March. This occasion also marked the unveiling of a joint call for the deployment of fuel cell trucks.

This event brought together more than 150 attendees, including leading truck industry experts, EU decision-makers, end-users and infrastructure providers to discuss the acceleration of the mass-market deployment of hydrogen fuel cell trucks and their infrastructure. The event was the first of its kind in Brussels, and many attendees and high-level speakers illustrated the growing momentum of hydrogen fuel cell trucks as a solution to decarbonise the heavy-duty vehicles sector.
