As part of the fund, LAVO will receive $5 million to expand their prototyping, testing and pilot manufacturing for the LAVO Hydrogen Energy Storage System at Tomago in the Hunter Region of NSW, creating up to 250 local jobs in the Hunter Region.

Alan Yu, CEO and Executive Director of LAVO, said: “The NSW Government Regional Job Creation Fund provides LAVO with an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of sustainable employment opportunities in regional NSW while advancing our ambitions to scale our hydrogen energy storage solutions.

“We are thrilled to be broadening our work in the Hunter Region, developing new relationships with local organisations. With its proximity to broader NSW regional communities, Newcastle Airport and the Port of Newcastle, the region provides a unique opportunity for LAVO to contribute to the development of sustainable employment opportunities locally while advancing our impact globally through new export markets.

“We look forward to working with the NSW Government, our Australian supply chain partners and all key stakeholders in the region on this exciting opportunity.”

Already operating in the region through Australian supply chain partners Ampcontrol, Varley, R&R Murphy and Evergen, LAVO will continue to work with the relevant stakeholders to ensure the continued investment brings value to the region through sustainable employment and skill development opportunities.

LAVO is working closely with Hunter Region-based Training Services NSW and Newcastle TAFE to ensure appropriate and tailored training is available for workers in the region. The University of New South Wales and the University of Newcastle are also exploring opportunities for accredited courses in hydrogen technology and renewable energy.

These investments will ensure workers in the Hunter Region are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills for the jobs of the future.

CEO of Varley Defence, Victor Ugarte, stated “The partnership between LAVO, Varley & Ampcontrol has provided the opportunity for Varley to assist in the development of a cutting edge technology product and to demonstrate Varley’s expertise as a manufacturer of integrated system solutions. Varley is very proud to work on the LAVO technologies of the future today to bring about employment and a cleaner environment tomorrow.”

Ampcontrol Managing Director & CEO, Rod Henderson said “At Ampcontrol we are thrilled to see our research and development initiatives in hydrogen so strongly supported. Our innovative products, which we are designing through partnerships with the likes of LAVO, provide an opportunity for the region to become a major manufacturer of new energy solutions.

With the continued backing of the government and industry, the ground-breaking technology can become reality and our region has the opportunity to become an energy manufacturing powerhouse. Newcastle and the Hunter Region is incredibly well placed to lead the way in the production of energy devices. We have always been a big producer of power, and with our existing infrastructure and highly skilled expertise, we are well positioned to power the state with new energy products.“ added Mr Henderson.
