Fuel Cells Works, NanoSUN Winners of 2022 ‘Design & Innovation’ Award

NanoSUN, a Lancaster based company specialising in mobile hydrogen refuelling solutions, is delighted to announce that it has won the ‘Design & Innovation’ Award at the Northern Automotive Alliance (NAA) Awards 2022.

NanoSUN attended the Annual Business Awards and Networking Dinner on Thursday 22nd September in Cheshire to accept the prestigious title sponsored by McLaren. The NAA event showcased the successes of vehicle manufacturers, supply chain companies and service providers in the region.

Up against strong competition, with key regional players across the automotive industry shortlisted, the judges were impressed by NanoSUN’s bold approach to addressing one of the fundamental industry challenges of infrastructure in the adoption of hydrogen for the decarbonisation of heavy transport. Judges also recognised the company’s robust approach to industrialisation, with a very clear vision and plan, including secured funding.

Identifying that the transport sector, requiring a zero-emission fuel (hydrogen), will never gain a foothold unless there is a simple and low cost mechanism for distributing this new fuel, NanoSUN’s core focus has been on the design and development of its mobile Pioneer Hydrogen Refuelling Station (HRS); offering small to medium heavy-duty fleet operators a low-cost, flexible refuelling alternative to expensive fixed hydrogen refuelling stations.

NanoSUN’s CEO, Dean O’Connor, who collected the award on behalf of the team commented:

“It’s an honour to receive the Design & Innovation Award. It was an inspiring evening and to see NanoSUN’s name beside McLaren on an award is a bit special. We sat in a room with giants of the automotive industry and listened to a keynote speak, with 50 years in the industry, talk about the critical importance of doing more with hydrogen in the energy transition…fast! It was also great to see at least two other innovative hydrogen focused companies in the room – Ulemco and Oaktec.’

“As a fast growing SME, we are a passionate team with a strong commitment to the energy transition of the transport sector and we are extremely proud of our product. We have a hugely talented team at NanoSUN and it’s great to see them receive industry recognition for their achievements and dedication to the hydrogen industry.”
