lJmuiden, Netherlands—Tata Steel has announced that Hatch will be part of the team to deliver the hydrogen route to make green steel at its lJmuiden plant in the Netherlands. Hatch has been selected to provide the engineering for the reducing electric furnace (REF) package, which, when coupled with a direct reduced iron (DRI) plant, will enable the production of green steel using hydrogen.

BMW has started producing fuel-cell systems for its hydrogen-powered iX5 sport utitliy vehicle, moving forward with an alternative fuel that its German rivals don’t expect to be viable in passenger cars.

The fully hydrogen-electric watertaxi ‘MSTX 22’ was christened at the Watertaxi headquarters in Rotterdam. The drivetrain, developed by the SWIM consortium, is powered by a zepp.Y50 fuel cell module. This is the first maritime application for this turnkey module by the Dutch fuel cell system designer and integrator.

Kimberly-Clark, the international manufacturer of consumer products including Andrex®, Kleenex® and Huggies®, has signed an agreement with Carlton Power to supply hydrogen to the company’s manufacturing facility at Barrow-in-Furness. This partnership will support the development of Carlton’s proposed Barrow Green Hydrogen scheme in Cumbria and reduce Kimberly-Clark’s reliance on natural gas as part of its global decarbonisation strategy.

Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria are joining forces to further strengthen themselves as technology locations for hydrogen. The prime ministers of both countries stressed the importance of “green” hydrogen, which is produced climate-neutrally from renewable electricity, as an energy carrier of the future.
