Fuel Cells Works, SFC Energy Supports Federal Office of Civil Protection and Emergency Assistance With Fuel Cells for Self-Sufficient Power Supply of Mobile Vehicle Hangars

Brunnthal/Munich, Germany – SFC Energy AG, a leading supplier of hydrogen and methanol fuel cells for stationary and mobile hybrid power solutions, and its project partner, the energy storage system developer AXSOL, are supporting the German Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) in providing a self-sufficient power supply for three mobile vehicle hangars.

SFC Energy will deliver 15 EFOY Pro 12000 Duo with an output power of 500 watts each to AXSOL, a company in Würzburg, Germany. With SFC’s direct methanol fuel cells AXSOL designs, develops and produces three regenerative energy containers, which are ideally suited for civil defense and permanently and self-sufficiently ensure the power supply of three mobile vehicle halls of the BBK each. The mobile vehicle halls are large inflatable tents that can be set up in the open field. Vehicles and equipment can be stored there and maintenance and repair work can be carried out. Alternatively, they can be used to accommodate refugees, for example, or as a treatment center in an emergency. In the energy containers, the powerful EFOY Pro 12000 Duo fuel cells, which are designed for continuous operation, produce clean energy with their operating fuel methanol, which is then stored in lithium iron phosphate batteries. The system uses the generated power to supply, for example, the tent blower, lighting and offers charging options for various battery-powered equipment. Depending on the operational situation, the energy containers can also be used for mobile power supply.

The benefits of the self-sufficient EFOY Pro 12000 duo fuel cells come into play especially in the event of a disaster: for example, the SFC energy solutions produce renewable power regardless of the weather and also require little maintenance. In addition, unlike fuel for diesel generators, the logistics of methanol fuel cartridges are significantly simplified, which plays a major role in the event of a crisis, especially in remote, rural areas, mountain valleys, and imponderable terrain.

“Due to the accumulation of unpredictable natural forces as a result of climate change and the changed geopolitical situation, civil protection and disaster relief in Germany is receiving more and more attention. Therefore, the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance is pushing projects for efficient and effective equipment to be optimally prepared in the event of possible contingencies. Mobile vehicle sheds and energy containers with the powerful EFOY Pro 12000 Duo can make a major contribution in this regard, as they make the civil defense more capable of acting and deploying to counter local hazards more quickly. We at SFC Energy are proud to be involved in protecting the population with our fuel cell solutions,” says Dr. Peter Podesser, CEO of SFC Energy AG.
