Fuel Cells Works, SFC Energy Wins PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad as New Supplier of Methanol for Its Customers in the Asian Region

Brunnthal/Munich, Germany — SFC Energy AG (F3C:DE, ISIN: DE0007568578), a leading supplier of hydrogen and methanol fuel cells for stationary and mobile hybrid power solutions, significantly expands its distribution network.

With PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG), SFC Energy gains an essential producer of ultra-high purity methanol for its customers in the Asian region.

From now on, customers of EFOY fuel cells in the region can be supplied much more efficiently with methanol in commercially available fuel cartridges. The hub is the production site on the island of Labuan (Malaysia) with an annual volume of 2.4 million tons. Its proximity to customers not only simplifies logistics and consulting, it also reduces costs by skipping conventional trade routes and reduces the carbon footprint. Thus, SFC Energy customers and above all the environment benefit.

“We want to contribute to the Race-to-Zero by reducing the share of fossil raw materials in off-grid energy supply. High purity methanol is an essential part of achieving this goal. As part of our expansion in Asia, we can reach our local customers even better, save costs and also reduce our carbon footprint through more efficient logistics. In an environment of globally rising energy prices and tearing supply chains we simultaneously increase security of supply for all users of the EFOY fuel cell series,” says Dr. Peter Podesser, CEO of SFC Energy AG.

Datuk Sazali Hamzah, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of PCG says: “The ultra-high purity methanol produced by PCG is of higher quality than the required specification by the International Methanol Producers and Consumers Association (IMPCA), hence making it a superior choice for Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC). As a low carbon solution, it contributes to our efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions as every litre of ultra-high purity methanol utilised in DMFC emits 24% lower COâ‚‚ as compared to diesel portable power generator of similar capacity. Besides being environmentally friendly, we are confident that this innovative product will meet the needs of customers as it is a reliable and autonomous source of energy.”
