  • Opening Ceremony for Hydrogenation Plant Held in Brunei Darussalam

Construction of a hydrogen plant, as part of the worlds’ first global hydrogen supply chain to utilize the organic chemical hydride method, was completed in Brunei Darussalam. The opening ceremony was held today on November 27, 2019. The project is being promoted with support from the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Mohd Hussein, the Minister of Energy, was invited as the presiding officer of Brunei Darussalam, and approximately 150 people attended the ceremony, including government officials and local stakeholders, Ambassador Yamamoto, the Japanese Ambassador in Brunei Darussalam, Director Ezawa from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Executive Director Sato from NEDO, and directors from AHEAD member companies attended the ceremony.

With the conclusion of the auspicious ceremony, the worlds’ first global hydrogen supply chain will, at last, be launched. Transportation of hydrogen produced in Brunei to Japan using Chiyoda Corporation’s SPERA technology has already commenced.

The opening of the plant in Kawasaki will fully demonstrate a global hydrogen supply chain.

The AHEAD member companies Chiyoda Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsui & Co., Ltd., and NYK Line are committed to the safe operation and success of this demonstration. The experience accumulated will enable AHEAD to take a big step toward commercialization.
