Fukushima(Jiji Press)--Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe and his Fukushima counterpart, Masao Uchibori, signed a pact on Tuesday on a joint research and development of technology to produce hydrogen without emitting carbon dioxide.
The pact is designed to provide Tokyo with hydrogen made in Fukushima Prefecture by utilizing renewable energy sources.
The Tokyo metropolitan government aims to use hydrogen as a key eco-friendly energy source when it hosts the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
At a press conference held at the Fukushima prefectural government office, Masuzoe said Tokyo hopes that the Olympics and Paralympics will utilize hydrogen to be produced with the technology that will be developed in Fukushima.
Uchibori said he wants hydrogen to be produced in Fukushima will be utilized for the Games so that the prefecture can show progress on its postdisaster reconstruction to the rest of the world.
