The Van Kessel Group from The Netherlands aims to become a leading player in the distribution of hydrogen to refilling stations. For this purpose the Dutch company has put 2 hydrogen trailers into use. Van Kessel will use the trailers for the supply of hydrogen to its own refilling stations and to those of third parties.

The trailers have 20ft containers containing lightweight composite cylinders where hydrogen is stored under a pressure of 300 bar. Each trailer can transport 400 kg of hydrogen. The trailers were developed and built by Wystrach GmbH, which specializes in hydrogen storage and distribution systems.

A total of 5 trailers have been ordered, all of which will be delivered between Q3 2022 and Q1 2023. In addition, Van Kessel recently ordered a 6th trailer equipped with a delivery installation, with which the company will fill hydrogen-powered machines (such as excavators) on remote locations with hydrogen from mid-2023.

Network of hydrogen filling stations

Hydrogen is no longer unknown to Van Kessel. They have been operating the Hysolar Greenpoint hydrogen refilling station in Nieuwegein since 2021. In addition, a second hydrogen refilling station is currently being built in Dordrecht. The company also has advanced plans for hydrogen stations at its Greenpoint locations in Oude-Tonge, Ede, Sliedrecht, Asten, Veghel, Bleiswijk, Zeewolde and Haps.

Joan van Kessel, Managing Director of Van Kessel: “Our ambition is to become a leading player in the Dutch hydrogen market with a strategic network of hydrogen refilling stations. We will use these trailers to supply our hydrogen refilling stations, but also stations of other market parties. We have already reached agreement on this with several parties.”
