This came during the “Investor Day” event organized by the company, which is the first of its kind, and in which 400 elite investors and sector leaders from around the world participated; to explore new strategic investment opportunities in the green hydrogen sector in the Sultanate of Oman and the government’s role in driving the global energy transformation through what has been achieved in the field.

The design of the third round of auctions will take into account the lessons learned from the previous two rounds with the aim of improving participation mechanisms and enhancing competitiveness.

This round includes new strategies for land allocation, developing more efficient bidding procedures, and studying the possibility of proposing innovative mechanisms such as two-sided auctions aimed at linking the green hydrogen production sector with downstream industries such as green iron and fertilizers.

The upcoming round will focus on attracting global and local investors, with priority given to enhancing local content, ensuring infrastructure readiness, and compliance with global market requirements, which will support the development of the hydrogen system in the Sultanate of Oman and enhance its position on the renewable energy sector map.

The bidding process is expected to open in the first quarter of 2025, with the winning projects to be announced between the last quarter of the same year and the first quarter of 2026.

His Excellency Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals and Chairman of Hydrome, said: “The announcement of the third round of auctions demonstrates the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to continue developing this promising sector according to well-studied steps and a strategic vision. We will focus on enhancing the true value of each project, whether in terms of sustainability, technological innovation or economic impact, by investing in the Sultanate of Oman’s renewable resources and geographical location.”

His Excellency said that he seeks to build an integrated system for green hydrogen that contributes to achieving the global shift towards clean energy, as this approach represents a fundamental pillar in his vision to enhance international partnerships and provide innovative solutions that contribute to driving the wheel of sustainable economic development at the local and international levels.

During the working sessions, the topic of ongoing cooperation to develop the liquid hydrogen corridor, which was launched during the Conference of the Parties (COP 28) through a study agreement with the Port of Amsterdam, Ecolog and NPW, was discussed.

He stressed that this cooperation has achieved an important accomplishment represented in the completion of a study that confirmed the feasibility of establishing specialized transport ships to export liquefied hydrogen. He pointed out that the Port of Duqm is a strategic hub for these efforts, as it supports the export of green hydrogen from the Sultanate of Oman to European markets via the Port of Amsterdam, and to Asia-Pacific markets via Singapore.

For his part, Eng. Abdulaziz bin Saeed Al Shidhani, General Manager of Hydrome, explained that the wide participation in the Investor Day organized by Hydrogen Oman Company (Hydrome) reflected the extent of global interest and confidence in the vision of the Sultanate of Oman to develop a green hydrogen economy, as the event represented a valuable opportunity to exchange visions and enhance dialogue with global partners on developing the sector.

He pointed out that the dialogues, partnerships and what was announced during the event highlight the joint efforts that have been achieved, and pave the way for exploring more opportunities that enhance Hydrogen Oman’s journey towards contributing to the Sultanate of Oman’s plan for transformation in the energy sector.
