Nordic Hydrogen Corridor main 1

Statkraft and Everfuel join Hyundai, Toyota, and Hydrogen Sweden in an EU-funded hydrogen transport initiative in Sweden.

Hydrogen Sweden assumes the role of project manager for Nordic Hydrogen Corridor (NHC), which aims to provide emission-free transport solutions with hydrogen in Sweden. The initiative includes fuel cell vehicles and the production and distribution of green hydrogen. Statkraft, Europe’s largest renewable energy producer and Everfuel, supplier of complete green hydrogen distribution, are joining new partners. Automotive manufacturers Hyundai and Toyota continue as partners as before.

Around 40 municipalities and cities have expressed their interest in hydrogen as a solution for zero-emission transport in Sweden. The NHC partners are working on investigating the most qualified locations to ensure that there is sufficient demand before making investment decisions and moving into the implementation phase. The total budget then amounts to SEK 200 million and is partly financed by the EU program Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) .

Increased use of fuel cell vehicles has been identified by the European Commission as an important step in achieving an emission-free transport sector. By using hydrogen together with fuel cell technology, you get exhaust-free vehicles with clean water as the only emission. Nor is the hydrogen gas refueling in the Nordic region producing any climate-impacting emissions during production, since it is produced from renewable energy.
