The Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute (KOMERI) recently signed an MoU with two local partners to develop hydrogen fuel cell technology suitable for marine applications.

The collaboration is designed to contribute to the growth of related industries by developing eco-friendly energy system for shipbuilding and marine equipments. The two local fuel cell producers involved in the agreement will use solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology in marine environment.

The selection of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell technology was made on the basis of the technology being able to operate at higher operating temperatures, thus allowing the use of other hydrocarbon fuels, including hydrogen.
