The two electrically powered IVECO S-eWay Fuel Cell tractor units play a key role in achieving the H2Haul objectives of demonstrating that hydrogen trucks are a virtually emission- and CO2-free transport solution for long-distance haulage, thus paving the way for their commercialization.
IVECO's role in the H2Haul project reflects the company's commitment to advancing hydrogen solutions for the decarbonisation of road freight transport as part of its technology-neutral multi-drive approach.
The vehicles were presented at a special event at the BMW plant in Leipzig to provide insight into the use of hydrogen throughout the manufacturer's value chain.
The event also saw the inauguration of a TEAL Mobility hydrogen filling station near the BMW plant – a key element of the necessary infrastructure for the vehicles.

IVECO has handed over two IVECO S-eWay Fuel Cell tractor units to BMW, a partner in the H2Haul project. This European project is co-financed by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership and aims to demonstrate the high reliability of hydrogen-powered trucks as a viable and locally emission-free solution for European transport needs. This will be done with field tests in several real-world deployments in collaboration with different hydrogen suppliers and in different geographical ecosystems.

This milestone underlines IVECO's commitment to driving sustainable mobility and shaping the future of locally emission-free logistics in Europe.

The handover took place during a special event hosted by BMW in Leipzig, which gave an insight into the holistic use of hydrogen along the BMW value chain - from logistics to the vehicle for long-distance transport. On this occasion, two state-of-the-art hydrogen filling stations by TEAL Mobility were also inaugurated in Leipzig and in Hormersdorf, an important step in building the necessary infrastructure for H2 logistics and for clean road freight transport.

The IVECO S-eWay Fuel Cell has a range of up to 800 kilometers , can be refueled in less than 20 minutes and can hold 70 kilograms of compressed hydrogen at 700 bar pressure. Thanks to its long range and possible payload, it is likely to represent a real innovation in locally emission-free long-distance transport. Supported by two new hydrogen filling stations, the new tractor units transport parts between Nuremberg and Leipzig.

Boosting sustainable innovation in Europe: a hydrogen showcase project

The two IVECO S-eWay Fuel Cell tractor units delivered today are part of a fleet of 12 hydrogen-powered vehicles that IVECO is deploying at strategic locations in Germany, France and Switzerland as part of the H2Haul project to demonstrate the future viability of hydrogen fuel cell trucks. One of the two tractor units demonstrated hydrogen refueling at TEAL Mobility's new hydrogen refueling station, while the second was presented at the BMW plant in Leipzig.

The event, hosted by BMW, was attended by representatives of consortium partners, project partners, funding institutions and government officials, including delegates from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. The event began with presentations on BMW's holistic hydrogen concept, showing how hydrogen is integrated into the company's entire value chain - from production to long-distance transport. This was followed by detailed insights into the project and its central role in accelerating the scalability of hydrogen-powered vehicles in the transport of the future. Guests were then invited to attend the opening ceremony of TEAL Mobility's hydrogen refueling station near the BMW plant in Leipzig, where a hydrogen refueling process was demonstrated on an IVECO S-eWay Fuel Cell. An IVECO BUS E-WAY, which is already used on the BMW site for the locally emission-free shuttle service, transported visitors between the BMW plant and the new filling station.

This comprehensive hydrogen technology demonstration underlines the collective commitment of the industry leaders involved to decarbonise logistics and accelerate the adoption of hydrogen-powered mobility for long-distance and demanding operations, and also represents an important milestone on the path to decarbonising the industry.
