The milestone of 500 hydrogen passenger cars in the Netherlands has just not been achieved at the end of 2021. At the end of the calendar year, 488 FCEV models were registered with the RDW. This is an increase of 33% compared to the end of 2020. The share of hydrogen cars is still limited on the Dutch road. However, the number of FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) vehicles has increased exceptionally over the past three years, from 54 to the current 488 vehicles. An enormous growth has been visible in hydrogen buses since 2021, namely from 6 to 41 vehicles. That number will certainly continue to grow in 2022, because various city transporters have announced that they want to make the bus fleet more sustainable with FCEV buses.

The share of hydrogen delivery vans and trucks is still limited to 15 and 14 vehicles respectively at the end of 2021. The growth in the number of FCEV vehicles has contributed to the opening of more and more public and slow-fill hydrogen filling points. As a result, more and more national coverage is created. There are already public H2 filling stations in: Amsterdam, Hoofddorp, The Hague, Rhoon, Arnhem, Nieuwegein, Doetinchem, Pesse and Groningen. The map below provides an overview of existing and new H2 filling stations to be developed.
