VANCOUVER and DERBY, U.K.— Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ: BLDP;TSX: BLDP) today announced that it has received a purchase order from Porterbrook Leasing Company Limited (“Porterbrook”; www.porterbrook.co.uk), a leading participant in the rail leasing market, for an FCveloCity®-HD fuel cell module and related support to power a HydroFLEX train in the U.K.

PowerCell Sweden AB (publ) has together with the Swedish truck maker Scania, the refuse company Renova and the truck superstructure company JOAB, initiated a joint project to build an electric refuse truck where both the propulsion and compactor run on electricity produced by fuel cells. The refuse truck will be operated by the waste handling company Renova in Göteborg and the project has been granted funding by the Swedish Energy Agency.

Berlin – Steffen Bilger, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, presented a new funding approach at the General Assembly of the National Innovation Programme Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology, specifically focusing on regions for the support of mobility with hydrogen. It will be coordinated by NOW GmbH.

Billerica, Massachusetts — Nuvera Fuel Cells, LLC, a provider of fuel cell power solutions for motive applications, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Hangzhou district government of Fuyang, in Zhejiang province, China to enable the local manufacture of Nuvera® fuel cell stacks beginning in 2019. In addition to incentives offered by the district government, the agreement includes an investment by Nuvera to establish a production facility in Fuyang.

Paris — Akuo Energy, the leading French IPP in renewable energy, and Atawey, French manufacturer of decentralised hydrogen refuelling stations, are to deploy 33 refuelling stations in urban and suburban areas of Paris and other French towns and cities, before expanding the project across Europe. These stations will provide fuel for 400 hydrogen-powered vehicles for JCDecaux, Galeries Lafayette and other pioneers in zero-emission urban mobility.

• Geraldton forum looks at renewable hydrogen opportunities 

A McGowan Government-led forum today in Geraldton is examining opportunities to attract clean hydrogen projects to the Mid-West region.

Hydrogen, when produced using renewable energy sources such as solar or wind, is a clean energy option and carbon free fuel that is gaining increasing global interest.

• LLC NOVATEK – Ust-Luga has chosen the Haldor Topsoe Convection Reformer (HTCR) for hydrogen production at their refinery in Ust-Luga, Russia.
• The modular HTCR technology lived up to NOVATEK’s strict requirements for minimal water consumption, small footprint, and fast delivery.
• Topsoe will deliver license, basic and detailed engineering, all equipment (including PSA unit, water treatment unit) and steel structures, and catalyst for the 30,000 Nm3/hour hydrogen plant.

The hydrogen plant is slated to begin operation in the second quarter of 2020, and basic engineering has already begun. Topsoe delivers all equipment, including pressure swing adsorption and water treatment units, as well as training of NOVATEK’s operators.

Hexagon Composites, the leading gas fuel solutions provider, has received a special permit from the United States Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) for the highest pressure gas transport systems ever.

The U.S. DOT special permit authorizes the manufacture, marking, sale and use of Hexagon’s 500 and 950 bar cylinders for over-the-road transport modules in the United States, for hydrogen and other gases.
