ULEMCo Completes First Hydrogen / HVO Dual-Fuel Conversion

ULEMCo, the hydrogen fuel pioneer, has completed its first hydrogen dual-fuel conversion in which HVO is used on the vehicle rather than diesel. The waste collection truck for Keenan Recycling gives the opportunity to show best in class “environmental sustainability” by combining the use of hydrogen to reduce tailpipe emissions with the “drop in” renewable fuel.

Following the plenary vote on the Renewable Energy Directive II (REDII), Hydrogen Europe wholeheartedly welcomes the historical European Parliament (EP) decision to commit to ambitious binding renewable targets and to simplify the regulatory framework. The Parliament has made a commitment to an overall renewable energy contribution of 45% to the total energy mix by 2030, something which Hydrogen Europe, together with other stakeholders, has always supported.

  • Topsoe and First Ammonia signed a 5GW launch company agreement for the reservation of first-of-a-kind, industrial-scale, solid oxide electrolyzer cells (SOEC) to produce green ammonia, a fuel for transportation, power storage and generation, and fertilizer.
  • This is shaping up to be the largest agreement in the world, to date, for any type of electrolyzer and will displace almost 5 BCM of natural gas and eliminate 13 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
  • The first 500 MW of capacity will be installed in the world’s first commercial-scale green ammonia plants at sites in Northern Germany and Southwestern United States.

TRUCKEE, Calif. — Southwest Gas Corporation (Southwest Gas or Company), as part of our commitment to meet our customers’ goals for sustainable energy and achieve economy-wide carbon reduction targets, is translating purpose into action with its proposed hydrogen-blending demonstration project (Project) filed with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) on September 8, 2022. The Project was submitted as part of a Joint Application with Southern California Gas Company and San Diego Gas and Electric Company, that also filed proposed hydrogen projects within their respective service territories. Southwest Gas’ Project proposal, if approved, will produce vital information toward implementing meaningful, practical and sustainable energy solutions with measurable impact toward the Truckee Town Council’s goal of an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040 and further contributes to Southwest Gas’ larger efforts and integral role in supporting economy-wide climate and environmental goals.
