Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) and Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32) announced that Texas municipalities will receive $70 million from the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Corridor Program to build hydrogen fueling stations throughout Texas, including in Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio. The stations will create a clean hydrogen refueling network for medium- and heavy-duty freight trucks.
“As a supporter of smart energy policy and a representative of the energy capital of the world, I am thrilled that the Biden administration is awarding $70 million to build hydrogen fueling stations across our state,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher. “This federal investment in Texas and in American energy is the direct result of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which I was glad to work on and vote for, and will allow us to build our energy future.”
“Emerging fuel technologies like hydrogen are so important to our future as an energy state, and this grant will help ensure Texas is well positioned to lead the nation and the world – while creating jobs along the way,” said Congressman Colin Allred. “Combined with Houston’s selection as a Regional Hydrogen Hub, this investment shows that Texas is going to do big things when it comes to hydrogen fuel and I was proud to help secure it.”
In the last Congress, Congresswoman Fletcher and Congressman Allred voted for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which appropriated funding for a variety of energy projects, including the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Corridor Program, to deploy new energy technologies throughout Texas and the United States. Emissions from the transportation sector currently account for 30% of all U.S. emissions. This program will help deploy new energy technologies which will reduce emissions and improve air quality throughout the state.
In September 2022, Congresswoman Fletcher led a bipartisan effort—which Congressman Allred joined—advocating for a hydrogen hub to be established in Houston. In October 2023, Congresswoman Fletcher and Congressman Allred celebrated the announcement that the Biden administration selected the HyVelocity Hub in Houston as one of seven locations across the United States for a Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub, after they’d continuously made the case for Houston to serve as a location for the hub.
