Clean Power Hydrogen Plc (CPH2), innovators of the unique membrane-free electrolyser (MFE), announced a pivotal update regarding its contract with ATOME Energy plc (“ATOME”). In March 2022, ATOME had placed an order for a 1 MW MFE220 electrolyser from CPH2. However, as of November 28, 2023, both companies have mutually agreed to terminate this production order. CPH2’s leadership believes that directing its engineering and installation efforts towards existing collaborations with Fabrum Solutions Limited, KCA Deutag, and Northern Ireland Water is more aligned with the company’s strategic goals.

In an intriguing development, ATOME has initiated, and CPH2 has consented to, a non-binding framework agreement with G-Mobility, a subsidiary of Molecular Energies plc. This agreement explores potential licensing arrangements for manufacturing and selling CPH2’s MFEs in the Mercosur countries of South America. Notably, Molecular Energy, which holds a 20 percent stake in ATOME, is keenly focused on the South American energy market.

G-Mobility’s interest in this framework signals strong confidence in CPH2’s innovative technology, especially considering its competitive advantages in cost-effectiveness, efficiency, reliability, and scalability. This potential partnership paves the way for future electrolyser production in Paraguay, aimed at catering to the broader Latin American market, leveraging CPH2’s advanced technology and expertise.

CPH2 has set an ambitious production target of 4GW per year by 2030, with plans to manufacture 1GW in-house and outsource the remaining capacity through licensing agreements with other companies. This licensing model offers partner companies the opportunity to harness CPH2’s groundbreaking MFE technology while maintaining autonomy over production and delivery schedules, using their own resources.

CPH2 remains committed to the successful rollout and commercialization of its technology. The company is on track to deliver its first MFE110 unit to Northern Ireland Water, following a successful Factory Acceptance Test (FAT). This initial phase will be followed by on-site validation, integration, and commissioning before the unit begins producing medical-grade hydrogen and oxygen commercially.
