Fuel Cells Works, ECONNECT Energy to Deploy Jettyless Technology for Southeast Asia’s First Green Ammonia Export Project

ECONNECT Energy and The Green Solutions (TGS) have signed a commercial agreement to export green ammonia from Tra Vinh production plant in Vietnam via proprietary jettyless infrastructure.

Oslo, Norway and Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Vietnamese renewable energy project development and services group, TGS, has selected Norwegian technology company, ECONNECT Energy, to export green ammonia from Tra Vinh Plant, as Vietnam aims to build climate resilience and sustainable economic development in line with COP26 standards.

As a first step, ECONNECT Energy will perform a pre-FEED study followed by an EPC contract for the fabrication and installation of a jettyless IQuay to deliver green ammonia from the onshore plant to ammonia storage vessels for export. ECONNECT Energy pioneered the world’s first “jettyless” LNG transfer to an onshore terminal in 2017 and continues to deliver jettyless marine-based technology for a variety of energy transfer and bunkering applications.

“The Green Solutions Group is proud of being the pioneer in Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia industry in Vietnam, and one of the first in the world utilising jettyless technology in place of traditional port infrastructure for flexible transporting solutions serving complex dynamic markets,” stated TGS Founder and CEO, Winnie Huynh.

Tra Vinh Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Production

In an important step to bring climate-friendly industrial development to Southern Vietnam, TGS is constructing a green hydrogen and green ammonia production plant in Tra Vinh, commencing operations in 2024.

Initially, the ammonia export project will use green credit from the grid, up to 240MW installed capacity to produce 575 mtpd (210,000 MT p.a.) of “liquid sunshine” green ammonia for export. The Tra Vinh project is underway as TGS has entered into agreements with German electrolyser manufacturer Thyssen Krupp, among others.

Jettyless ammonia solution to realise region’s first green energy export

Following the 2021 investment decision and offtake contracts for Tra Vinh plant, TGS has awarded the marine export scope to ECONNECT Energy to use a proprietary jettyless solution to transfer ammonia from the production plant via the ECONNECT IQuay platform to offshore storage vessels.

“TGS has an impressive track record of green energy project development, and we are pleased to contribute our IQuay ammonia solution. The low-footprint design of the IQuay is the perfect solution to overcome the challenges of the region’s shallow waters, enabling the marine-based export of green ammonia,” stated ECONNECT Energy CEO Morten Christophersen.

ECONNECT Energy believes in making clean energy accessible globally. ECONNECT Energy is an independent Norwegian technology company assisting the midstream, downstream and maritime markets with a jettyless IQuay™ floating transfer terminal for LNG, ammonia, CO2 and other liquids. With innovative technology ECONNECT Energy is committed to expanding clean, sustainable and climate-positive energy solutions.

The Green Solutions aims to promote energy development in Vietnam, better manage endless resources from solar energy, wind energy, air and water resources. With the desire to make the best use of abundant renewable energy in Vietnam with the country’s commitment to net zero emissions by 2050, TGS focuses on working with experts and policy makers on renewable energy and hydrogen to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels and coal power, with a vision to be the pioneer in green hydrogen manufacturing for the next generations’ power market, fuel cells industry, and also energy storage as a backup source for the national power system.
