Extreme E has been announced as an official member of the Monaco Hydrogen Alliance.
The partnership was revealed at the second edition of the Monaco Hydrogen Forum (27-28 November 2023), the world’s first platform dedicated to moving the world with green hydrogen.
The Monaco Hydrogen Alliance is a not-for-profit Association under Monegasque law to promote the use of green hydrogen in land, air, and maritime transportation.
In 2022 Extreme E, the motorsport for purpose, revealed its plans to launch an off-road hydrogen championship – Extreme H. Earlier this year, Extreme E and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the governing body for world motorsport, announced a pathway for Extreme H to become the first-ever off-road hydrogen racing world championship.
Creating a hydrogen racing series is a natural evolution of the championship’s mission to showcase the possibilities of new innovations and technologies in the race to fight climate issues. Extreme H will be a research and development testbed for emerging technologies and sustainable solutions, while utilising the impact of mobility powered by renewable hydrogen.
As the series moves towards a hydrogen-powered future, becoming a member of the Monaco Hydrogen Alliance reinforces these commitments by collaborating with industry leaders who recognise the need for innovation, investment and infrastructure to ensure green hydrogen plays a key role in decarbonising sea, air, and land mobility.

“Transportation alone can account for nearly 25 per cent of all global emissions, and as a series with raising awareness of the climate crisis at its heart, we have an important role to play in combatting this. Extreme H will demonstrate the capabilities of mobility powered by renewable green hydrogen, which can help inform strategies to reduce emissions through applications in transport and mobility across the world.”
John Rossant, President of the Monaco Hydrogen Alliance, said: “Extreme E has been instrumental in pushing battery electric technology to exciting new limits, and will soon extend to hydrogen with the launch of the Extreme H series in partnership with the FIA.

Extreme H will become an FIA Championship from its inaugural season in 2025, with a pathway for it to become an FIA World Championship from 2026. This status demonstrates the series’ progression since its inception in 2021 and a strong statement of intent for its growth towards its hydrogen-powered future.
Eventual accreditation as an FIA Championship and then an FIA World Championship means the series would be amongst the top tier of global motorsport categories.
Development of the Extreme H series is underway, with testing of the first prototype chassis underway ahead of the first season in 2025.
