Fuel Cells Works, H2 MOBILITY Germany & Hy2B Hydrogen GmbH Sign Hydrogen Supply Agreement
  • For more green hydrogen in transport: Hy2B and H2 MOBILITY Germany agree on hydrogen acceptance.

Berlin| H2 MOBILITY Germany plans to purchase regeneratively produced hydrogen (H2) from Hy2B Hydrogen GmbH from 2024. The two companies announced their intention to supply green hydrogen from Lower Bavaria in the run-up to the ground-breaking ceremony for the megawatt electrolysis project on the site of the future hydrogen center in Pfeffenhausen. H2 MOBILITY hydrogen stations are to be supplied with the green hydrogen, primarily in Bavaria.

The hydrogen demand at German filling stations is increasing: in the last 12 months alone, the amount of hydrogen (H2) tanked in Germany has doubled. Above all, the area of commercial vehicles is growing significantly. However, in order for hydrogen to contribute to complete decarbonization here, it must be produced electrolytically from renewable energies. However, green H2 is still in short supply in Germany.

“Especially when expanding local electrolysis plants, we enable economical operation as a reliable customer. Hydrogen mobility can make a decisive contribution to the implementation of regional electrolysis projects and the rapid expansion of electrolysis capacities in Germany, from which other customers will also benefit!” said Nikolas Iwan, Managing Director of H2 MOBILITY Germany, on the occasion of the agreement.

The Hy2B hydrogen production plant in Pfeffenhausen is part of the HyPerformer model region HyBayern funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV). A hydrogen technology and user center will be built on the property south of Schmatzhausener Straße in the municipal area of the Pfeffenhausen market in the coming years. From the second half of 2023, the hydrogen electrolysis plant will produce green hydrogen with renewable electricity from a newly built photovoltaic ground-mounted system and later also from wind turbines in the immediate vicinity.

The importance of such grid-supporting electrolysis systems is currently increasing in the drastically intensified energy crisis, since a stable power grid is a prerequisite for accelerating the expansion of renewable energies.

The German hydrogen filling station network

Fuel cell drivers can currently drive cars, small commercial vehicles and e.g. B. Refuel garbage collectors. Nine more filling stations are in the planning, construction or commissioning phase. Buses and trucks can also be refueled at 350 bar at twelve stations. A further seven stations are currently being implemented. This puts Germany in the lead in a European comparison.

H2 MOBILITY Germany is currently the leading provider in Europe with over 90 hydrogen filling stations. The further expansion of the German hydrogen filling station infrastructure is demand-oriented, including along the TEN-T corridors for commercial vehicles.
