About Hydrogenious LOHC Maritime

Hydrogenious LOHC Maritime enables hydrogen to the maritime industry: Its first-of-its-kind onboard Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) & fuel cell power system is under development on a megawatt scale. Applying the compelling LOHC solution of its German shareholder Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies, hydrogen can be easily handled as an oil. All gaseous molecules are chemically bound to the carrier – the thermal oil benzyl toluene. LOHC loaded with hydrogen is non-explosive and hardly flammable, and accordingly has a hazard potential comparable to diesel. Thanks to this carrier’s inherent characteristics, this enables low-cost hydrogen distribution, a fast and familiar bunkering process and on-board ship storage by utilizing existing bunkering facilities onboard as well as in ports. The Norwegian shipping group Johannes Østensjø dy AS contributes its international maritime expertise and holds 30 percent of the company.
