Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (“Mitsui”, Head Office: Tokyo, President and CEO: Tatsuo Yasunaga) will begin a business collaboration with FirstElement Fuel, Inc. (FEF), the largest hydrogen station developer and operator in California, U.S.A., aimed at the development and maintenance of competitive hydrogen stations, expansion of FEF’s network into other regions, and the enhancement of hydrogen infrastructure.

WALPOLE, Mass. – Atrex Energy has successfully demonstrated advanced Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) Power Source for DoD use.  Atrex’ commercial SOFC generator was operated on desulfurized JP-8 fuel at 1500W and net DC efficiencies of ~ 40% (fuel LHV to electricity).

The Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD), US Army Engineering and Research Development Center (ERDC), US Army Communications Electronics Research Development Center (CERDEC), US Army Research Lab (ARL), and the US Army Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) attended this demonstration.

  • Confirmed order for 15 hydrogen powered fuel cells

Proton Power Systems plc (AIM: PPS), the designer, developer and producer of fuel cells and fuel cell electric hybrid systems, announces the receipt of a confirmed order from ebe EUROPA of Memmingen (“ebe”), Germany,  for 15 hydrogen powered fuel cells of 60kW of generating capacity each.

ebe EUROPA is an integrator and distributor of electric buses. The ultimate customers are four city councils in Germany (Frankfurt am Main, Mainz, Muenster and Wiesbaden).  The total value of the order is EUR 4.1 million, with secured payment conditions including a further eight years warranty. It is expected that the 15 fuel cells will be delivered within the next 12 months.

It is certain that hydrogen will be used on a large scale in future cars, according to German industrial gas supplier Linde. “We’re absolutely sure about the future of hydrogen in passenger cars,” said Markus Bachmeier, head of the company’s Hydrogen Solutions division, at the industry trade fair in Hanover.

ABB, SINTEF and Fiskerstrand Test Fuel Cells for the World’s First Conversion of a Hydrogen Hybrid Ferry

The tests will seek to provide answers needed for Norwegian shipyard Fiskerstrand to convert an existing ferry to run on a combination of batteries and hydrogen fuel cells.

ABB and the SINTEF Ocean laboratory in Trondheim will assess how fuel cells and batteries can best function together for short-distance ferry operations, and how Fiskerstrand can integrate them with other engine room systems. The tests will also provide insight into the introduction of hydrogen fuel cells for future reviews of the rules covering shipboard use of hydrogen.
