THE team behind the Ballylumford ‘Power-to-X’ project which aims to create a full-cycle hydrogen economy using 100 per cent renewable energy sources says collaboration within the UK’s renewable sector is crucial to growing the north’s green economy.

The University of Helsinki’s Faculty of Law is participating as a research partner in a significant co-innovation project with a budget of more than €8 million aimed at promoting the utilisation and commercialisation of hydrogen and bio-based carbon dioxide.

Smoltek Nanotech Holding AB (“Smoltek”) publishes an operational update for its Hydrogen business area, which has made significant progress within the development of its cell material for electrolyzers in 2022. Furthermore, a collaboration in this business area has been initiated with a global manufacturer of input material for electrolyzers.

“This is a milestone. We have shown that our container-based power solutions can be fuelled by hydrogen, and together with our partners we have demonstrated that the value chain for such solutions is in place,” says Styrk Bekkenes, CEO of Scana.

Volvo Trucks are running tests of fuel cell electric trucks that only emit water vapour and have an operational range comparable to diesel trucks, up to 1,000 km. A second pilot phase is to follow in a few years’ time and will see customer tests on public roads.
