Sydney– Pure Hydrogen is pleased to provide an update on the hydrogen-powered waste removal truck for leading Australian waste management business, JJ’s Waste & Recycling. Following ADR compliance testing, the vehicle is in the final stages of assembly. Component parts are being fitted by Bucher Municipal, a division of multinational Swiss engineering group Bucher Industries.

Highlights

  • Development and construction of Pure Hydrogen’s fuel cell-powered waste truck for JJ’s Waste and Recycling is nearing completion. The vehicle will be one of the first of its kind in Australia.
  • JJ’s Waste & Recycling operates a large fleet of around 2,000 waste trucks. A successful trial could catalyze the transition from Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles to Hydrogen Fuel Cell (HFC) trucks.
  • Bucher Municipal, a division of Swiss engineering conglomerate Bucher Industries, is handling the truck’s body fitting.
  • The vehicle has undergone comprehensive testing to comply with Australian Design Rules (ADR), the national road vehicle safety standards.
  • Upon completion, a 12-month trial with JJ’s Waste & Recycling will begin. This will be followed by a showcase roadshow for industry stakeholders.
  • Interest in transitioning from ICE to HFC vehicles is noted across international markets in the waste management and transport sectors.

Pure Hydrogen Update

The truck has passed all criteria for safety and design standards and final government approval is expected soon. A maiden trial will begin in the coming months to evaluate the vehicle and set a refueling framework. If successful, JJ’s Waste & Recycling has the option to acquire more HFC vehicles, thereby reducing their carbon footprint.

Pure Hydrogen will conduct a 12-month trial and subsequent roadshow to demonstrate the vehicle’s attributes to investors and industry participants.

Pure Hydrogen’s Managing Director, Scott Brown, stated, “We believe there is a huge market for clean Hydrogen Fuel Cell Garbage Trucks not only in Australia but worldwide. We’re excited about our hydrogen-powered vehicle for JJ’s Waste & Recycling. It meets stringent Australian Design Rules and has passed all relevant performance and safety tests.”
