It has signed a strategic association agreement until 2027 with the Spanish company Texla Renovables

The British renewable energy company Renewco Power has signed a strategic agreement with the Spanish company Texla Renovables to develop green hydrogen projects throughout Andalusia. Its commitment to this innovative energy vector is based on the role given to it as a key element in decarbonization, as an effective alternative to fossil fuels.

The choice of southern Spain is related, in turn, to the commitment that is being made in our country for renewable hydrogen, with a roadmap that proposes the installation of electrolyzers until reaching at least four gigawatts peak capacity. in 2030. Within these plans, Andalusia can become, according to the company, the main export hub of green hydrogen in Europe.

An important alliance

The business development director of Renewco Power Spain, Pedro Perejón, explains: “This important alliance with Texla Renovables to co-develop the production of green hydrogen and derivatives in Spain is part of our current strategy for the set of renewable energy projects. of Renewco, adding to existing solar, wind and storage energy projects.”

For his part, Roland Bettscheider, founding partner of Texla Renovables, assures that one of the main attractions of hydrogen is its versatility, with applications ranging from industry, transportation and energy storage, as a clean and renewable fuel, to domestic use. In fact, he states, “hydrogen is key, since it allows us to do the same as with natural gas in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way.”

First project in Cádiz

The agreement plans to promote electrolysis plants until 2027. Texla reports that the first project will be developed in the province of Cádiz and is expected to begin operating in four years. It is an electrolyzer with a capacity of sixty megawatts peak that will be complemented by a solar photovoltaic plant of 150 megawatts peak and a battery energy storage system of between fifty and one hundred megawatt hours.

Currently, 27% of our country’s green hydrogen projects are concentrated in Andalusia. In total, according to Texla, there are already 123 initiatives underway throughout Spain, with a total investment of around 21,000 million euros. Electrolysis, the most sustainable technology, whose evolution has multiplied the interest in hydrogen as a fuel, is achieved by breaking the water molecule using a continuous electric current to divide it into oxygen and hydrogen.
