Fuel Cells Works, South Korea Plans to Deliver 17,000 Hydrogen Vehicles and 91 Refueling Stations in 2023

South Korea’s government and agency will collaborate under a consultative group to supply and distribute hydrogen for mobility. To establish a steady hydrogen supply and demand infrastructure, they plan to construct 91 stations and deliver 17,000 hydrogen vehicles. Three liquefaction plants and six hydrogen production bases will be finished this year.

The “Hydrogen Supply and Demand Consultation Group for Mobility” was presented by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy in Seoul, with participants from the Korea Gas Corporation, hydrogen refueling station operators, hydrogen vehicle manufacturers, and supply sector distributors. The Ministry of Environment will provide 16,920 NEXOs, 700 buses, 100 trucks, and 120 cleaning vehicles before year-end.

The council plans to improve the infrastructure for hydrogen supply and demand, constructing 91 more hydrogen stations and increasing the number of refueling stations for each transportation base. This year, HyNet and Coheizen plan to add 17 and eight new hydrogen refueling stations, respectively, while SK E&S will construct 11 liquefaction filling stations before year-end.

The advisory committee anticipates that this year’s demand for hydrogen will be around 10,000 tons, and the supply will be around 15,000 tons. To avoid an imbalance in supply and demand, the consultative body will continuously evaluate the situation since the development of production bases and liquefaction plants is concentrated in the second half of the year.
