Successful Experimentation With Hydrogen Cargo Bikes in Issy

On August 31, the closing event of the European project aimed at exploring new mobility solutions for last mile logistics was held online. The town of Issy-les-Moulineaux was the testing ground for cargo bikes powered by a hydrogen-enhanced electrical system, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Balance sheet.

After three years of testing the FCCP (Fuel Cell Cargo Pedelecs) project, funded by the European Union via the Interreg North-West Europe program, Issy-les-Moulineaux was able to test a new mobility solution for last mile logistics .

1500 kilometers traveled

The first of the two Issean cargo bikes was used by various city departments during events or for transporting supplies between municipal sites. The second was used to provide tours for municipal displays. In total, the two scooters covered more than 1,500 km in Issy-les-Moulineaux during the project. Since October 2022, four other hydrogen tricycles have been deployed for the City’s businesses, as part of an agreement with Grand Paris Durable. Auchan, Biocoop, Terre & Fourchette, Nina Metayer, Atelier Mathilde, Terre and Tendance were the first voluntary traders in the city. The objective is to develop last mile deliveries in a gentle manner while improving the quality of life of Isseans. Indeed, this delivery segment, which represents around 20% of traffic nationally, occupies 30% of the roads and accounts for 25% of greenhouse gas emissions. The use of cargo bikes would therefore make it possible to reduce these rates.

This project also paved the way for the City’s hydrogen strategy, symbolized by the inauguration of the first hydrogen service station last April. Others

projects aimed at combating climate change are currently under study, in particular the HydroSeine project, which plans the reconversion of a district of the city into an eco-district powered by hydrogen.
