Embrace hydrogen, and its body is made from a series of materials crafted from ocean-recycled plastics, seaweed, and substances of biological origin.

There is much speculation about the mobility of the future, both in technical terms and in relation to the capabilities that cars of tomorrow will have. Many point to the use of hydrogen in future cars to achieve clean and non-polluting mobility, and the truth is that our protagonist today meets this premise. GAC Motor has unveiled the Era concept car at the Guangzhou Auto Show, a hydrogen-powered prototype that also features a design previously unseen in the automotive world, thus opening up new possibilities.

In particular, the body of the GAC Era is made from a series of materials derived from recycled ocean plastics, seaweed, and bio-based substances. Despite the use of these materials, GAC Motors’ concept car does not compromise on a distinctive appearance and elegant lines. Professionals from the brand worldwide, including the team from the brand’s Advanced Design Centers in Los Angeles and Milan, have contributed to the vehicle’s design.

Present Mechanics, Future Construction

To be honest, the mechanical proposal of this GAC Era is by no means groundbreaking. In fact, it could be considered a tangible reality. According to the brand, this concept car features a powertrain consisting of a hydrogen fuel cell paired with two electric motors located on the rear axle. Each motor has 200 kW of power, resulting in a combined power of 540 horsepower. This configuration allows the GAC Era to have a range of 800 kilometers.

In this sense, perhaps the most interesting point is that the Era is built on a technical platform that allows for various types of powertrains and energy sources. Therefore, this potential large SUV, measuring 5.41 meters in length with a wheelbase of 3.13 meters, can have this powertrain based on a hydrogen fuel cell, but also utilize a conventional electric battery system. In any case, there is currently no confirmation of its production release.

However, the key point of this GAC Era lies in its design and the materials used to depict its image. Among the noteworthy aspects is its front end, with a meticulously integrated combination of headlights, sensors, and cameras. The front fascia also adds an extra touch of personality to an SUV with robust lines at the bottom and a much more elegant and rounded silhouette at the roof. Inside, its standout feature is the rotating seats, aligning with the autonomous driving of the future.

Both its exterior and interior not only present a carefully crafted image but also represent the epitome of using new materials in the construction of tomorrow’s vehicles. The body is constructed with recycled marine plastic and biologically derived components such as seaweed. In the cabin, new materials like mycelium leather are utilized, providing an alternative to animal leather obtained from the filaments forming the vegetative part of a fungus.
