Fuel Cells Works, Turkey Advances in Climate Change Battle With Hydrogen Initiatives

Turkey is making strides in the fight against climate change by exploring hydrogen as a clean energy solution. TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) is currently working on two projects – the “HYSouth Marmara Hydrogen Valley Project” and the “South Marmara Hydrogen Coast Platform Guided Project” – to promote hydrogen usage in the country.

The Ministry of Industry and Technology announced that TÜBİTAK is developing various solutions to address climate change, with hydrogen being a key focus. The country, like many others globally, is seeking a transition to cleaner energy sources to minimize its carbon footprint.

The “HYSouth Marmara Hydrogen Valley Project,” Turkey’s first hydrogen valley, is supported by the Horizon Europe Programme and has received the highest European Union contribution in Turkey’s history of Framework Programs. The project’s goal is to create a hydrogen value chain for the region’s transportation, energy, and industrial needs.

The “South Marmara Hydrogen Coast Platform Guided Project” aims to build a platform that unites industry, academia, and government to advance hydrogen technologies in the region. The platform will enable knowledge and expertise sharing to expedite hydrogen adoption.

Both projects were signed at TEKNOFEST, an annual festival highlighting Turkey’s scientific and technological achievements. The event was attended by the Minister of Industry and Technology, Mustafa Varank, and TÜBİTAK President, Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal.
