A gathering of 10 associations, including BP and Shell, have launched the Hydrogen Taskforce which is planning to offer a common vision of hydrogen.
The coalition wants to establish 100 hydrogen stations by 2025 and also wants the UK Government to commit £1bn towards trials in storing, distributing and making hydrogen by low-carbon hydrolysis.

BP, Shell, and BOC are among organizations joining in the Hydrogen Taskforce.
Heading the Taskforce’s rundown of asks are:
- £1 billion of public support for trials in storing, distributing and making hydrogen by low-carbon hydrolysis
- One hundred hydrogen re-fuelling stations built before 2025 to gather technical experience
Arup, Baxi, BOC, BNP Paribas, Arval, BP, Cadent, DBD, ITM Power, Shell, and Storengy, complete the names on the taskforce. The task force has released a new report outlining a number of measures to ensure the UK can capitalize on the opportunity to decarbonize cost-effectively and play a leading role in the growing global market.
The task force was launched at an event at the UK parliament that was attended by Energy Minister Kwasi Kwarteng and the MP for Redcar Jacob Young.

“By making the following strides and quickening Hydrogen advancement programs we can make a huge number of new, talented, green employments and keep on driving the world in the hydrogen economy.”
Arup’s Neller said “We anticipate working intimately with all concerned to understand the advantages and uses of hydrogen – early and profound decarbonization, excellent employments and a worthy addition to the UK economy.”
