A customisable hydrogen refuelling solution for automotive, aerospace, & marine applications.

  • Viritech unveils H2 Fill – a fully SAE J2799 compliant hydrogen refuel controller
  • Product facilitates simultaneous filling of multiple pressure vessels on a single vehicle
  • Infra-Red communication with filling station to enable 700 bar refuelling

London, Viritech, the leading developer of hydrogen powertrain solutions, today launches its new refuelling product, H2 Fill. In common with all Viritech products, H2 Fill has been designed to offer a flexible, efficient, and cost-effective solution for a wide range of hydrogen powertrain applications.

One of the key benefits of hydrogen vehicles over battery-powered vehicles is their faster refuelling times. However, hydrogen pressure vessels operate at very high pressures, and often, vehicles have multiple pressure vessels, requiring accurate control of the refuelling process. In compliance with SAE J2799, H2 Fill automatically communicates with the refuelling station, and is capable of monitoring multiple vessels for temperatures and pressure during the refuelling cycle.

In terms of its technical specification, H2 Fill communicates via IR (Infra-Red), using the IrDA protocol (as per the SAE J2799 standard), and can also be supplied without an IR sensor for applications where a sensor is already pre-installed. Viritech can also assist customers with vehicle integration of H2 Fill.

Phil Wild, CEO of Viritech, said, “We are delighted to launch H2 Fill today, which embodies two core aspects of Viritech’s approach to delivering industry-leading hydrogen powertrain technologies.

“Firstly, H2 Fill has been designed to provide a solution to a clearly identified customer need. H2 Fill has also been designed to be offered as a stand-alone product or to be used as part of a fully integrated Viritech powertrain solution. This is consistent with Viritech’s commitment to provide enabling powertrain technologies, as well as support to OEMs and Tier-1s in their transition to hydrogen-powered vehicles.”

About Viritech

Launched in 2021, Viritech is a cleantech pioneer with the goal of becoming the world’s leading developer of hydrogen powertrain solutions for the Automotive, Aerospace, Marine , and Distributed Power industries.

Viritech was recently selected by Ford as a key technology partner in the development of a hydrogen version of the iconic Transit van. It, and was also confirmed as the lead partner in a Government funded consortium which includes HORIBA MIRA and Intelligent Energy, to develop a fuel cell powertrain for a 40-tonne HGV. Further developments of Viritech’s industry leading powertrain technologies are expected to be adopted for marine and aerospace applications in 2024, with applications for off-highway, rail, and agriculture also on the horizon.

With an F1-derived engineering culture focussed on agile innovation and the creation of valuable, licensable IP, Viritech’s business model is to develop world-leading technologies to licence to global OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.
