INDIANAPOLIS — Calumet Specialty Products Partners, L.P. (NASDAQ: CLMT, “Calumet”) announced today that Montana Renewables LLC (“MRL”) has closed the previously announced $50 million of project financing from Stonebriar Commercial Finance LLC (“Stonebriar”) related to construction of the renewable hydrogen plant for Calumet’s renewable diesel business in Great Falls, Montana.  Once complete, the renewable hydrogen plant will allow increased production of renewable diesel and further reduce the carbon intensity of products from MRL. The renewable hydrogen plant has an expected operational startup in the fourth quarter of 2022.

A team at the University of Pennsylvania is proposing the use of a liquid-organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC)—specifically, 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline (THQ)—for use as an endothermic fuel for thermal protection of hypersonic aircraft engines. A paper on their work is published in the journal Fuel.

• Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG) has unveiled a concept for a new hydrogen bug for the Baja 1000.

The new sports car will be more than just another off-road racing version of the Boot SUV, but also an eco-friendly, hydrogen-powered racing variant. The prototype is called the Glickenhaus Hydrogen Fuel Cell Boot and is set to start the SCORE International Baja 1000 race at the end of 2022.

The Consumer Technology Association has announced the winners of the CES 2022 Innovation Awards. The JOUAV CW-25H(DJ25) hydrogen-powered VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) fixed-wing UAV system won the CES 2022 Innovation Award in the Drones & Unmanned Systems.
