Hydrogen Station Groundbreaking Ceremony in Eastern Switzerland

The groundbreaking ceremony for the first hydrogen filling station in Eastern Switzerland took place in St.Gallen, at the headquarters of Osterwalder St.Gallen AG. The opening is scheduled for April 4, 2020.

The AVIA Association, Coop, Coop Mineraloel AG, Agrola, the Fenaco-Genossenschaft, Migrol AG and the Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund founded a sponsorship association in 2018 with the aim of jointly realizing a nationwide network of hydrogen filling stations in Switzerland. In doing so, they meet the requirement that vehicles can be operated without emissions – a groundbreaking step towards sustainable mobility in Switzerland. The expansion should take place with the company’s own vehicle fleets and privately within the next five years.

Osterwalder St.Gallen AG, as a member of the AVIA Association, is pleased to open the first hydrogen filling station in Eastern Switzerland 2020 at the company’s headquarters at Oberstrasse 141.

The hydrogen station is part of the project of the H2 Mobility Switzerland.

Hydrogen as a fuel for cars, trucks, and cars is still rare today. In the medium term, however, hydrogen will become the standard fuel.

Convincing advantages
Because the advantages of hydrogen vehicles are convincing: apart from water vapor, there are no harmful emissions when driving. And refueling is just as easy, quick and safe as with conventional vehicles powered by diesel, petrol or natural gas. Therefore, the range problem of electric cars is not an issue with the hydrogen car.

Production-ready technology
In addition, the underlying technology has long been ready for series production. In the fuel cell, the hydrogen is converted into water, generating electrical energy for driving the vehicle’s electric motor,

Project of the development association
Osterwalder St. Gallen AG as a member of the Avia Association will open the first petrol station in Eastern Switzerland at the company’s headquarters. The station is part of the project of the H2 Mobility Switzerland Association, which was founded in 2018. The Avia Association, Coop, Coop Mineraloel AG, Agrola, Fenaco, Migrol AG and the Federation of Migros Cooperatives have joined forces with the aim of realizing a nationwide network of petrol stations.
