A disruptive company called Lhyfe is taking on the renewable energy market. Using wind energy, a French startup has produced the first kilos of hydrogen for commercial use on the planet.
The first renewable hydrogen has been produced by LHyfe. In its factory in Bouin, Vendée, it produced 627 kilos of this unique product.
Wind energy is used to produce hydrogen, which is unprecedented. Electrolysers are connected to wind turbines surrounding the area.
“This is the first time in the world that electrolysis has been carried out using electricity produced by wind turbines,” said Lhyfe CEO Matthieu Guesné.
Produce 1 ton per day within a few months
This first result should pave the way for future production and marketing. It is expected that Lhyfe will increase its yields by the end of September 2021, as well as establish new relationships with new partners.
The production of green hydrogen should quickly reach 300 kilos per day. Before moving to a ton daily for the next few months.
Lhyfe thus achieves a unique technical feat: producing green hydrogen in industrial quantities, from wind power. The company is stimulating the advent of a virtuous energy model and is part of the national strategy for the deployment of green hydrogen in France.
Promising market
The market is extremely promising and could reach $ 700 billion per year in 2050 according to BloombergNEF . This requires substantial investments: to the tune of more than $ 11 trillion by 2050.
Currently, over 96% of hydrogen produced worldwide is sourced from fossil fuels. Similarly, carbon sequestration (fossil fuel and CO2) should hold a significant place in the energy transition market.
