Winterthur, Switzerland – In a significant stride toward advancing hydrogen fuel infrastructure, Burckhardt Compression AG has been chosen by a global frontrunner in industrial gas services to supply three high-performance, vertical, oil-free H2 compressors for a state-of-the-art Hydrogen Trailer Filling Facility set to be established in Northwestern Europe. This initiative marks a crucial step in bolstering the region’s green energy capabilities and underscores the growing importance of sustainable fuel alternatives.

The supplied 450bar hydrogen compressor packages are designed for high efficiency and reliability, capable of supplying 250kg/h of hydrogen. This capacity is sufficient to fill approximately 35 cars or up to 8 trucks per hour, significantly enhancing the operational efficiency of hydrogen fueling stations. Featuring Burckhardt Compression’s in-house developed BC REDURA® and PERSISTO® oil-free sealing ring system technologies, these compressors are set to be delivered as single lift units, streamlining installation and maintenance processes.

Hydrogen Trailer Filling Facilities are vital components in the hydrogen fuel supply chain, enabling the efficient distribution of hydrogen to fueling stations across various locations. These facilities fill trailers with high-pressure hydrogen gas, which is then transported to hydrogen fueling stations where it is used to fuel vehicles such as cars and trucks. This infrastructure is essential for the widespread adoption of hydrogen as a clean energy source, facilitating the transition towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly transportation sector.

Burckhardt Compression, a global leader in providing compression solutions with decades of expertise and innovation in oil-free hydrogen compression solutions, has been at the forefront of developing technology for energy and mobility applications. The selection of Burckhardt Compression for this project follows the company’s successful delivery of compressors for heavy-duty 350bar H2 filling units and highlights the strong collaborative relationship between the technical teams.

Andreas Brautsch, President Systems Division of Burckhardt Compression, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to this groundbreaking project, stating, “We are honored to be selected for this significant initiative. Our commitment to innovation and excellence in compression technology, coupled with our extensive experience in hydrogen applications, positions us to play a pivotal role in the global shift towards sustainable mobility solutions.”

This project not only reinforces Burckhardt Compression’s leadership in the field of industrial gas services but also signifies a major leap forward in the development of hydrogen infrastructure, promising a cleaner, greener future for transportation across Europe and beyond.
